The Art of Being Broken

Someone very wise told me today that the beauty of Rome and Italy lies in the fact that it is "broken". Those words fell straight from my ears to my heart. I have lived most of my life feeling as though I was broken. Most of my collections have been filled with broken objects and our store is full of broken treasures. Broken people have always caught my soul. One of my favorite past times is to gather broken pieces, love them up, glue and paint, and end up with something new; sort of like a brand new soul filled with lots of old wisdom. Thanks to you, my wise loved one, for helping me to remember that being broken isn't always a bad thing!

Blessed are the cracked, for they let in the light.

  1. I have grown to love my home's cracked and peeling plaster for it's every imperfection. More than half of my belongings once belonged to someone else, and I enjoy knowing they are perfect in their imperfection. My heart opens the widest for vulnerable souls. I have always felt like I needed fixing, and now in you, I find that I'm not alone in that feeling, nor any of the other feelins I have long been experiencing. Thank you for opening the latch and letting me glimpse into the window of your deeper soul. I'm honored, truly honored. If you weren't who you are, there would be less magic in the air, and that just wouldn't do!

  2. P.S. Here is a few lines from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho which I underlined as I read ...

"The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better. Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children. Each day, in itself brings with it an eternity."
